ACCOMMODATION IN THE TAGUS VALLEY REGION OF PORTUGAL.The area of Portugal to the north of Lisbon (Lisboa) is rich in history old towns, monasteries, palaces and superb golf courses.The coast has long, undeveloped beautiful sandy beaches facing the Atlantic ocean. The most popular towns include Obidos, Ourem and Tomar. The pilgrimage shrine of Fatima, is near Tomar, here there were a number of apparitions of the Virgin to three peasant children in 1917. Obidos is a wonderful old walled town, one a few remaining in Europe. It has narrow, winding streets and the Castle at the top has been converted into a small Pousada. There is also a small hotel in the walls and other accommodation and Manor Houses nearby.
