ACCOMMODATION IN THE BEIRAS REGION OF PORTUGAL

The most important inland cities in the Beiras region of Portugal are Coimbra, Leiria, Viseu, Castelo Branco, Guarda and Covilha with Figueira da Foz and Aveiro being coastal towns. 

The Beiras region has three sub regions : Beira Alta, Beira Baixa and Beira Litoral. 

The coastal region has long sandy beaches and there is a beautiful Pousada facing the lagoon at Aveiro.

Coimbra is an old university city that is worth a visit particularly for those who enjoy Fado, a particular type of song which is unique to Portugal.

The Dao wine producing area is found in the more mountainous, inland area near Viseu.

The east of the region is mountainous and still retains a traditional village way of life.
