This region has three sub regions: Beira Alta, Beira Baixa and Beira Litoral. 

The most important inland cities are Coimbra, Leiria, Viseu, Castelo Branco, Guarda and Covilha with  Figueira da Foz and Aveiro being coastal towns.

the coastal region has long sandy beaches and there is a Pousada facing the lagoon at Aveiro.

Coimbra is an old university city that is worth a visit.

The Dao wine producing area is in the more mountainous inland area near Viseu.
